TESTIMONIALS:
The time between applying for assistance and the time of receiving it was the shortest time I have ever experienced with any public assistance programs that I have applied for. Diana was quick to respond to our needs, she came out to our house and talked with us and to our Mother. She gave both, financial and emotional support. I was humbled by her - knowing that her Mother recently died of cancer and she was dealing with loss of her own, Diana still came to talk with us and put us in front of her own needs.
Alger Cancer Support Fund is needed and I encourage those living with a loved one that has cancer, to reach out to Alger Cancer Support Fund and to Diana. Please donate to this fund, it's local and they are personal, they care. D.V, Munising

Thank you for the donation and the gas card. They came at a time when I needed them most. I enjoyed going to the support group meeting as well and meeting everybody. It was very helpful, I hope to continue to go when things slow down. Sincerely, SB, Wetmore

Living With A Multiple Diagnosis
Ann Dolaskie, Munising
I was 44 years old when I was diagnosed with lung cancer in the spring of 2005. It was a long and hard battle. I went through chemotherapy, radiation treatments, and had a lobectomy removing 2/3 of my right lung. Most of my treatment was done at Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, and while they had a good number of support groups there, I was usually too ill from the treatment to leave the motel. After coming home and feeling better, I wanted to find a group to join, and there wasn't one.
In December of 2007 a metastatic brain tumor was found in my occipital region. It was successfully removed, and I went
through more radiation. It was this point when I realized that a support group was neccessary because there were so
many things that I wanted to talk about and I didn't know where to go to find the support I needed.
At a local benefit, I met Diana, and we talked about the cancer fund that she was organizing, and we talked about the need for support group meetings. After that day the support group that I needed was formed, and the Alger Cancer Support Fund branched out in another service for those affected by cancer in our community. I have been cancer free for almost 2 years, and the support group has been a great addition to my life.

Living with Endometrial Cancer
Judy Chartrand, Munising
Having survived cancer twice, I knew I had to help others in anyway I could. Knowing that the money and awareness raised, will help so many people dealing with all cancers. I also like the fact that all are welcome no matter what the circumstance. I felt at home right away. Others share the same thoughts, feelings, and understand the effects of treatment without being looked at like I'm crazy. To me, Alger Cancer Support Fund means hope, helping others, giving back, being there, sincerity, compassion. It felt like a big hug when I went to my first meeting. Diana and the rest of the support group made me feel like I was at home. My first thought was, "Finally, others understood what I was going through". Alger Cancer Support Fund is open to our suggestions. All ideas are considered, and put into action is some way or form. I'm so happy that we finally have a place to go to support eachother as persons living with cancer.

Living with Colon Cancer
Eva Sherman, Munising
Life can be hectic enough, but when we're delivered a diagnosis like cancer, life seems to take a turn around.I have colon cancer and when I heard about Alger Cancer Support Fund, I contacted them with hesitation. I was proud and didn't want to ask for help. I was up and down. I didn't know which way to turn. I was angry but determined not to accept my prognosis.
Alger Cancer Support Fund has shown me that I am as important as everyone else out there. I can be with others that have or had cancer and know what I'm going through.
The interaction with the member's of the Support Group keeps me involved in my own care and reminds me that I matter. I am important. I have to live for me.
Alger Cancer Support Fund has helped me in so many ways. Diana and the Support Group has helped me see that I am a person living with cancer. I have grown to become an individual that puts knowledge into power to be the best advocate for myself as a person living with cancer.
Everytime I needed something Alger Cancer Support Fund was there. There is always someone to talk to. They have made me feel I truely do matter. This organization is very receptive and always open to ideas. A true assest to our community.
