WHAT WE OFFER NOW: Financial, Emotional and Informational Assistance

You tell us what you need and we will do our best to make it happen.

TRAVEL ASSISTANCE. We offer a $25 gas card for local travel (per visit) and up to $100 for travel downstate (in some cases, more may be given, all assistance depends on funds and distance)

PRESCRIPTION ASSISTANCE. ACSF has an account at Putvin's HealthMart in Munising. This account will allow us to assist you with prescription costs and co-pays.

MEETINGS: NEXT MEETING ( March meeting is cancelled) Next meeting will be April 19th from 6-8p LAKESHORE MANOR APT BUILDING IN MUNISING 200 CITY PARK DRIVE FIRST FLOOR.

We offer assistance with living expenses, rent, mortgage, utilities, food etc...whatever your needs are and our funds allow.

NEW SERVICE - Eye Protection

Chemo makes our eye's more sensitive to the sun's harmful rays.  Sunglasses or prescription glasses with transition lenses just isn't enough to block those rays.  The sun gets in through the top of the glasses and on the side causing sun damage from over exposure to the eyes.  FITOVERS sunglasses can protect your eyes from all angles.

(If you are going through chemo or have recently finished treatments, please take 5 minutes and look in the mirror or make an appointment with your eyecare provider for your eye's.  If you notice a yellow tinge or a grey pupil you may have sun damage)

**********   HOW DO WE RAISE FUNDS?   ***********

We have fund raisers and awareness booths.  We sell tee's, caps, bracelets and have bake sales.  Our funding is very limited as we rely solely on public donations we receive through fund raising. From pennies to dollars it all counts.  Please read on to see how you can help us to continue to make a difference in the lives of Alger County cancer patients.

MARCH 2012 FUNDRAISER: We are holding a Spaghetti dinner on March 8th from 4-7p at the Moose Lodge in Munising. If you are interested in volunteering, please call or send an email. (Please read on for our exciting goal coming in June)

  Our ACSF Butterfly Of Hope shirts are available in several sizes and colors. Other shirts with our ACSF logo are also available. Purchasing a tee shirt is a great way to provide support to our family, friends and neighbors that are living with cancer. For $20.00 you get a shirt and the money helps make travel to Marquette for treatment possible. Shirts are available at Munising Community Credit Union.

COUNTRY MUSIC JAMBOREE HELD MAY 4, 2011

  WHAT HAVE WE DONE AND WHERE DO WE HOPE TO GO WITH THIS?   

Who is ACSF?  We are volunteers and cancer patients.  We share a need, a hope.  Our lives have been touched by cancer through a personal journey or through watching our loved one's experience cancer. Alger Cancer Support Fund is the ONLY cancer organization in Alger County that provides both financial and emotional assistance to ALL CANCER PATIENTS.  Please read our Real People Real Stories and In Memory Of Pages to see the difference we are making. 

************************** OUR BIG GOAL - PLEASE READ****************************

OUR BIG GOAL:  We have a big goal; On June 16th 2012, We will pull off a multi-community walk on the same day, same time!  We need your help.  

We have divided Alger County into 4 areas: 1) Munising/Wetmore/Shingleton, 2) Grand Marais, 3)Trenary/Traunik, 4) Chatham/Eben/Autrain.  That is Alger County divided into areas/4 walks. (attend the walk closest to you or where ever your loved one's live) Our goal is to reach out to outlying communities to bring attention to our friends and neighbors that Alger County has a general cancer fund and increase awareness to the many cancers that Alger County residents are living with.

We hope to have residents join us for a walk right down the mainstreet in their community. It doesn't have to be a long walk, just a walk together to show pride, survivorship and support. A Survivorship and Camaraderie Walk! 

The walk will start at a central location ie; bank, school, post office etc... and end at a city park where we can enjoy a potluck picnic and more comaraderie. If you would like to participate, volunteer or share your ideas on how to get the job done, we would love to hear from you.

Our hope is to have all participants wearing a white shirt or our lavender caps with our ACSF logo and displaying their own art work such as a dedication to the person they are walking for. Get creative, color it up with markers, names, ribbons.

We will take the pressure off of everyone by not asking them to get sponsors or collect money for this walk, however, we will not refuse donations.  We hope to make this walk fun and supportive!

So, go ahead and talk about us. We want to be the "good gossip". Tell us what you think.

OTHER GOALS:

We eventually would like to bring ACSF to the point where we offer a one time grant to Nursing students specializing in Oncology.

Without your donation we could not exist. 

Let's turn up the volume on cancer!

All funds raised through donations STAY in Alger County and go directly to Alger County families in need of financial relief.   

We are a GENERAL CANCER FUND for Alger County. We offer an All Cancer Support Group open to any persons living with any type of cancer.  Caregivers and family members are welcome.  You do not need to be living with cancer to join.  ALL ARE WELCOME.
